The billionaire was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and raised in Miami and Houston. He founded Amazon in a rented garage in Bellevue, Washington in 1994 after quitting his job at D.E. Shaw & Co.

Jeff Bezos also has investments in many other companies including Twitter, Uber, Airbnb, Business Insider, The Washington Post, and Workday among others — through his venture capital firm, Bezos Expeditions. He was one of the early investors in Google. He invested $250,000 in Google in 1998, an investment which by 2017 was worth approximately $3 billion. Bezos also founded Blue Origin, a human spaceflight startup.
